About Private Lessons
Students enrolled in private lessons typically find many benefits including the following:
Increase your technical capability on the instrument!
Gain a higher and lower range, better flexibility, cleaner articulation, more accurate intonation, better knowledge of scales and keys, and much more!
Expand your Repertoire!
Expose yourself to new music you would not otherwise see. With a private instructor to guide you through standard repertoire and beyond, you will get to know music outside of the typical ensembles (band and orchestra).
Become a more expressive musician!
Having a private instructor to not only hear their students' results first hand, but offer some feedback as to how one can more effectively convey a message, musically, is extremely beneficial. You will not learn more about musiciality and expression more than from a private teacher.
Opportunities to perform more often!
Being involved in private lessons means being a part of a 'studio' comprised of many students of varying ages and skill levels. This allows for a potential end-of-the-year or end-of-semester studio recitals, where all students can perform for the public. It is also much easier to enter the annual SOLO AND ENSEMBLE CONTEST with a private instuctor to guide.
Practice more efficiently!
Learn about the instrument and music together by getting the most out of your practice. A good private instructor will show their students ways to practice, and give them exercises to help, that will tackle more than one part of playing music.
Build a strong Student-Mentor relationship with your private teacher!
One of the best (and probably least advertised) reasons to be involved in private lessons is the chance to build a lasting relationship with your mentor. I can personally say that my lasting friendships with my former teachers are some of the most valued I have in the world, definitely in music. Not only is your private instructor there to teach you music, they are there to guide you through everything music-related...which is a lot!
